about

New Wine, Old Skin.

This song speaks to a woman claiming her desire with no apology. It’s a woman’s declaration that she is a sovereign creature walking the earth. She explores her fantasies of full acceptance of her own desire.

The old bible verse says you can’t put new wine into old skins- so with this song, Monique speaks to changing one's skin, becoming a new entity, accepting all of who one is.

All the old paradigms of what a woman’s role is and what a woman can ‘want’ and ‘ask’ for are thrown out the window with this song.

There is a beautiful piano solo from Dylan Meek.

lyrics

new wine, old skins.

meet me under the high moon
over my muslin dress
take it slow so we get high
I'm yours in the moment

now that moment is over
no need to linger there
no reason to say goodbye
to myself devoted

new wine
old skins

whose to say
do what your told
I chose myself
and broke the mold
diving to the ocean floor
flying, take a breath and touch the sky
whose to say
we're not bold
if I'm controlled
I will revolt
like lion in a broken cage
to a license from the olden days

enter, kiss and be quiet
lay on the bedroom floor
he touches me while she goes wild
their mine in the moment

love me like this or leave me
I won't pretend no more
I'm dancing in my own desire
to my self devoted

new wine
old skins
don't belong

whose to say
do what your told
I chose myself
and broke the mold
diving to the ocean floor
flying, take a breath and touch the sky
whose to say
we can't be bold
if I'm controlled
I will revolt
like lion in a broken cage
to a license from the olden days
